GAVAS ATTENDS WHITECAPS FC MLS ACADEMY TRIAL WEEK
Soccer Nova Scotia is pleased to announce 14-year-old Yorgos Gavas has been invited and is attending this weeks Whitecaps FC MLS Academy trial week for players in 2005, 2006, and 2007 age groups. This event brings together players that have been identified from across Canada and is taking place at the National Soccer Development Centre in Vancouver, BC from Monday, July 5 to Friday, July 9, 2021.
Gavas, 14 currently plays in the NS Whitecaps BMO Academy Centre and will suit-up for the Halifax Dunbrack U17 AAA Boys for the 2021 summer season. He is one of a select few chosen to attend the high-performance trial camp, and the only Atlantic Canadian to be selected.
The purpose of the trial week is to further evaluate players for their potential invitation into the MLS Academy for the upcoming 2021-22 season. During this week Gavas will train with MLS Academy technical staff on a daily basis and participate in match play. The MLS Academy teams compete at the highest level of youth soccer in North America.
The Vancouver Whitecaps FC MLS Academy is a full-time, fully funded player development program unlike any other in North America. The Academy is designed to maximize a player’s potential on and off the field through a “soccer lifestyle” philosophy linking technical and personal development. By integrating soccer-specific training, education, and accommodations (where applicable), this program provides the best conditions to develop and prepare elite athletes for the demands of professional environments in North America and Europe.
