Soccer Nova Scotia is seeking at least six (6) qualified candidates to serve on its Referee Development Committee, beginning in April 2025.
Composition of the Committee:
The Committee will consist of:
- At least six (6) members ensuring regional representation
- 50% Metro Representatives (Reside in Halifax Regional Municipality)
- 50% Rural Representatives (Reside outside of the Halifax Regional Municipality)
- Members may be past or present referees, referee assignors, instructors, mentors or assessors
- To prevent conflicts of interest, members cannot be part of the Referee Promotion Scheme
While the Soccer NS Referee Development Committee is not a representative body, it aims to include members from multiple regions to ensure diverse perspectives.
Eligibility Requirements
Candidates should have experience within the soccer community and strong connections with referees in their local region. Ideal qualifications include:
- Past or present experience as a referee, referee assignor, instructor or educator
- Strong ties to local/ regional referees and the soccer community
- Commitment to referee development in Nova Scotia
We strongly encourage any past or present referees or active soccer community individuals connected to their local referees throughout the province to apply.
All selected members must:
- Be 18 years or older
- Have or be willing to obtain a Criminal Record Check (completed within the last six months, paid for by SNS)
- Complete Respect in the Workplace Training (covered by SNS)
- Have the support of their respective referee association, club district or league
- Commit to a two-year term and attend four (4) committee meetings annually
Roles & Responsibilities
The Referee Development Committee will work in collaboration with Soccer Nova Scotia to provide recommendations to the SNS Referee Development Officer on referee programs and related matters. Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and advising on referee development programs
- Supporting the growth and advancement of referees across the province

- Area of residence
- Relevant experience and years served
- Personal skills and qualities that would contribute to the committee
