Soccer Nova Scotia is pleased to announce its newly appointed and returning Board members for 2023. Six members have been elected by acclamation to Soccer Nova Scotia’s Board of Directors following SNS’s annual general meeting on Sunday, June 11, 2023 (AGM).

David Risk, past Vice President and Chair of the SNS Finance and Audit Committee, was elected as President. Leanne French-Munn, Chair of SNS’s Strategic Planning Committee, was re-elected as a Director for her third, 3-year term. The board welcomes four newly appointed directors: Doug Raphael, Tara Larsen (3-year terms), Dany Rubbo and Cindy Kabongo (1-year terms). Following Sunday’s AGM, the SNS board met and appointed Martha Stevens, previous director, as Vice-President who will serve as VP until the next AGM.

Soccer Nova Scotia Nominations Committee completed their mandate to ensure candidates have the skills, and regional and gender requirements, as outlined in the SNS By-laws, needed to oversee the organization.

“We are delighted to welcome Mr. Risk as President of Soccer Nova Scotia,” said Lindsay MacAskill, Executive Director of Soccer Nova Scotia. “SNS will be extremely fortunate to have his depth of knowledge and experience as past Vice President and Chair of the Finance and Audit Committee, as well as his understanding of grassroots soccer in rural Nova Scotia, as we continue to implement our new Strategic Direction, as we strive to develop and grow soccer in Canada as community-driven, nationally recognized leader in the game.”

Departing directors are Nagy Abdou, Darren Thompson, and President Phil Swinney. Soccer Nova Scotia thanks them for their leadership and service during their tenure.

“Soccer Nova Scotia is eternally grateful to Mr. Abdou and Mr. Thompson and Mr. Swinney for their service,” said Risk. “On behalf of Soccer Nova Scotia, I would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Phil Swinney for his dedication and service to our organization over the past six years as president. His leadership and vision have been instrumental in as the organization experienced its most difficult times with the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. We wish you all the best!”
